5. Getting Started

Getting Started

When is a good time to get started?

Like most Boy Scout Troops, we go year-round. You can become a scout at anytime. Just contact our leaders or, just show up at one of our meetings....

When do we meet?

Troop Meetings (when all of our scouts get together in the same place - with the Scoutmaster) are normally held every Monday except the Monday after our monthly camp-out.

Patrol Meetings (when just one Patrol meets - with the Assistant Scoutmaster for that patrol) are generally held the Monday before a camping weekend to help plan the meals and duty roster for the camp-out.

To verify meeting times, you can check the calendar here.

What is the Cost of Joining?

First - don't let the cost scare you off. It's not that expensive and our Troop is able to assist if you need help. The person to see about assistance is the Committee Chair. This will be kept between you and them but you can tend to that later.

Second - The annual fee about $100.00 and the appropriate handbook is about $15.00. A new uniform runs around $25.00 but the shirt is good for up to 8 years, so uniform costs do go down as you move through the ranks. The monthly camp-outs range from $10-$30 depending on where we go. Summer Camps can run between $300-$500 for a normal year. When we go to Philmont near Cimeron New Mexico, the cost will be more.

We are not worried about the fees being paid up front. We can work with you. Scouting is actually quite reasonable considering all that your son will be doing throughout the year. Don't let the cost get in the way of your decision.
