Pinewood Derby. Church approved us using the gym for the Derby as long as we keep number in gym under 50. Set up Friday night, February 19, 5:30pm. Adults only. To limit number of people in the gym we will not do our normal Friday night test runs. Saturday morning start at 9am with Lions and go in order from youngest den to oldest. First 15 minutes for registration, 30 minutes to run cars, 15 minutes for dens to clear out and start with next den’s registration on the hour. Schedule posted on website. Mike to make a Google form for car registration prior to Pinewood Derby. Scott can use the information from the forms to set up the computer. We will be able to live stream for anyone who wants to watch from home. Mike pricing participation ribbons, patches. REMEMBER TO ENCOURAGE YOUR SCOUTS TO REGISTER THEIR CARS WITH THE GOOGLE DOC FORM AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE.

Murrin Campout, March 26-28. Sign up via Google Doc form by March 19th. $5 per person not to exceed $15 per family. Saturday meals and Sunday morning breakfast included. Fishing throughout day and Cesar will be there to instruct scouts. We will bring worms. Wouldn’t hurt to bring extra fishing poles for scouts who want to fish but do not have poles.

April Campout and orienteering adventure - tentatively Worth Ranch April 23-25, Mike checking for reservation that weekend. Will confirm.

Talked about doing an outside Blue Gold in May and doing awards and bridging. Not a big meal like before, maybe just tail gate/bring your own. More informal.

Den leaders need to check the Google Sheets dues listing and verify all of their scouts are accounted for and see if they have an outstanding balance. Please let Melissa or Raymond know if changed need to be made. Link is long but: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1DllYKMuo64S7DtZu27ItJ9yZ6_9OoH5bD5MRAn38uMo/htmlview

Remember to utilize ScoutBook so we can get awards for scouts to hand out at meetings. Let Mike know when you have updated it.

Website development – Send Derek pics to add to website that you are ok with being posted on the website. Please review and give Derek feedback on improvements. Remember to utilize your den calendar on the site.

Church also approved use of the gym/Reed hall for den meetings if properly distanced and wearing masks.

Murrin Campout, March 26-28. Mike to make a Google Doc for families to sign up and it will be available on the website. Webelos need to help with meal preparation for one of their requirements so they will help a meal. Adults will handle the rest. I contacted Cesar Ordenez to see if he can do the fish training we normally do with our Fishing Derby on the Saturday (waiting to hear back). Either way we can still have our Fishing Derby at the creek that weekend as an activity on Saturday.

Fishing Derby – Bear Den, Murrin campout weekend, March 27

Next meeting, Tuesday, March 2nd, 6:30pm

Pack 95 Committee Meeting 1.5.21

Pinewood Derby. We agreed when the church will let us in the gym in some capacity we want to do Pinewood Derby. We need a head count for number of cards needed. We will get cars out to parents and tell them it may be in February (date we have reserved for Blue and Gold) or it may be later. It was agreed to set up the track and then give the Dens time slots and they can race against each other to limit the number of people in the gym at a time. It also gives the Scouts more time to run their cars! TENTATIVE DATE DEPENDENT ON CHURCH’S POLICIES AT THE TIME IS FEBRUARY 19 SET UP AND FEBRUARY 20 TO RUN CARS.

The church does not mind us meeting outside as long as we are social distancing and following CDC guidelines for outside meetings. Scouts counts as a youth organization so there is not a limit to number of people gathering (like sports organizations). Some dens are going to try virtual in with in person. Each den to decide how to handle.

Blue and Gold postponed until probably May. If we cannot do banquet at church in May, we talked about doing it at Murrin and having everyone bring their food for their family and do awards there. AOL to have their own Bridging ceremony in February.

Please tell parents to immediately notify den leaders if their scout tests positive so they can share with Den. We cannot say who tested positive for privacy reasons but we do need to let the parents know if their scout was potentially exposed.

Plan a Spring Campout. WE NOW HAVE MURRIN RESERVED FOR MARCH 26-28. PLEASE TELL YOUR DENS TO MARK THEIR CALENDARS. WE CAN PLAN AT FEBRUARY MEETING.

We would like to plan an orienteering event since we were not able to participate in Cub-O. Also the Fishing Derby can be rescheduled. Planning those will be partially dependent on when we can do Pinewood Derby. We agreed Pinewood Derby is priority!

Remember to utilize ScoutBook so we can get awards for scouts to hand out at meetings. Let Mike know when you have updated it.

Fishing Derby – Bear Den, postponed until Spring

Next meeting, Tuesday, February 2nd?, 6:30pm

Pack 95 Committee Meeting 12.8.20

Postponing Pinewood Derby. Hopefully we can use the day slotted for Blue/Gold Banquet to run the Derby but will reevaluate later. We are going to hold off on giving out the cars until we know when we can try to have the Derby in hopes the car won’t be lost before the Derby and that the kids will still be excited about their cars by the time they have the chance to race them.

We talked about how our Dens are affected by the church closing its doors to inside meetings and options for meeting. Some of the Round Table dens moved their meetings to Sunday afternoon so it will be warmer meeting in daylight outside. Others are doing a mixture of virtual and in person so that there is two weeks between each time they are together. The church does not mind us meeting outside as long as we are social distancing and following CDC guidelines for outside meetings. Right now that is keeping groups to 10 or less.

Blue and Gold postponed. AOL may have their own bridging ceremony to go on to the Troop but may also be recognized in the Blue Gold later in the year if we can have it.

Mike created a sign up sheet for Cub-O, January 1-3. Please have your Scouts register prior to December December 23 so we can avoid a late fee when registering our Pack for the event. Go to website for information and form.

Pack 95 Committee Meeting 11.3.20

This Saturday, November 7th, is cleanup at Camp Murrin in preparation for the next weekend’s feast. Workday starts at 8am but will go on for several hours so come when you can and stay as long as you can. If you have them, please bring lawn mower/weed eater/rake/shovel/wheelbarrow/pruning shears/chain saw and please bring your own water. We have several projects to get the camp ready for so many visitors and any and all help is appreciated!

November Thanksgiving Feast/Campout – November 14-15. Troop is providing Thanksgiving meal and donations are requested. Pack can camp out Saturday night and set up tents after lunch clears out. Troop and AOL may camp out Friday night and participate in food prep. Feast around 1pm on Saturday.

Pack families, please park outside the gate when you arrive. After things settle down when feast is complete and people clear out you can set up your tents and move your cars inside the gate. We will do a camp fire ceremony. Each den needs to come up with a skit or song to do for the campfire. Go to Website and fill out the Google Doc RSVP form to let us know if you are planning on coming to just the feast, the feast and will stay to campout and how many people are coming in your group so they can prepare for food.

Bookmark our Pack website and refer to it often for announcements and forms.

Dec 5th - Fishing Derby at Benbrook Lake, Baja Beach (by par 3 golf course). Cesar Ordenez will host a fishing class and kids can fish along the beach. We will provide worms and Cesar typically has extra fishing rods for kids who may not have one to use. Bears will coordinate taking turns as the “gate keeper” who will open the gate for Pack families (gate is supposed to remain locked and only those with key are supposed to be able to access Baja beach – we have access to the key, we just need to not leave the gate wide open while we are there)

Den Meetings at the church – no more than 15 people allowed in Reed Hall at a time and no more than 50 allowed in the gym at a time. Per church policy, masks must be worn at all times when inside church property. Scouts are obedient and we need to abide by church rules. We still need to put awards in Scout Book so Mike can get awards and awards can be handed out in Den meetings. Important the scouts are awarded for their advancements.

Cub-O January 1-3 at Sid Richardson. Mike will help with registering our participants from the Pack but will not be able to attend the campout. Scott is Baloo trained so we will be ok from that stand point. Still need more parents Baloo trained.

Pinewood Derby may need to look different this year because of Covid. We still want to have it. We may need to stagger when each Den gets to run their cars or possibly live stream the running of the cars and have a couple of adults racing the cars and the kids can watch their cars run on line. Just ideas, nothing decided except we still want to do Pinewood Derby in January.

Website development – Send Derek pics to add to website that you are ok with being posted on the website. Please review and give Derek feedback on improvements. Remember to utilize your den calendar on the site.

Fundraising update? Den leaders keep up with money and books and return to Christina in November for payment to vendor and Pack. Remember to collect cash or have checks/Venmo to you the leader and then cash out to Christina since money will be split between vendor and Pack. $20/book with $10 to Scout and $2 to Pack. Sell 10 books and pay for your dues.

Pack Hats to be sold for $10 and may be ready this week. Should be ready for sure by Thanksgiving Feast.

$105 dues. New members now have a one-time $25 registration fee in addition to $105. Dues should be paid by October 31. If scouts are stilling selling books at that time, they need to communicate that to their Den leader. Melissa emailed den leaders the listing of credit for returning scouts from previous fundraisers. It was suggested to put the spreadsheet in a Google Sheet that could be edited by den leaders and reviewed for up to date information. Derek was going to create from the webmaster account and email link to leaders.

Pack Venmo account has been set up. @Benbrook-Pack-95 . Can be used for campout food money, registration for events and dues. Please turn in cash for fundraising books as this needs to be split up between Pack and Vendor.

Scott Bryan has agreed to be next Cub Master and will start January 1.

Close to having a Lions’ leader and should start in the next couple of weeks. We have 5-6 kindergartners interested so far.

Pack 95 Committee Meeting 10.6.20

Committee felt Murrin campout was a success (minus the wasp invasion) and did not have recommendations for improvements. We liked the troop leading cubs in games and den meeting time in the afternoon. We were over budget on food purchases but Mike made some changes to the Google form for next campout to try and help be more clear on how many people will be at each meal.

No Pack Meetings at this time until COVID restrictions relieved. Den leaders keep Scout book up to date with awards so Mike can get awards to be handed out at Den Meetings. Mike is going to ask troop for Den Chief volunteers to help each Den. Mike is also going to get with Raymond to set up a Pack Venmo account we can utilize to collect Pack money for those who do not want to pay cash.

Longhorn Council Fall Festival and Haunted Trail weekend at Sid Richardson - $24 per youth and $12 per adult for Sid Richardson and $5 per person NTE $15 per family for food. See Pack website for Google form to register. Need to turn in forms by October 15th so Pack can register group and avoid late fees. Archery, BB guns, pumpkin carving will be by reservation as will the start times to the haunted hike.

November Thanksgiving Feast/Campout – November 14-15. Troop is providing Thanksgiving meal and donations are requested. Pack can camp out Saturday night and set up tents after lunch clears out. Troop and AOL may camp put Friday night and participate in food prep. Feast will likely be around 1pm on Saturday.

November Baloo training still has openings. Please pass on to parents and encourage participation. https://scoutingevent.com/662-TT31_BALOO_2 for more information and registration. Nov 6-8

Joanna contacting Cesar Ordenez to help with fishing derby. It was suggested to fish Benbrook Lake as opposed to the pond by Robot Park behind the Y. Shooting for December as November is already busy.

Idea of a Pack Hat to be sold rather than a new Den hat each year. We didn’t really decide on this but I do have a printing connection who could do the hats if we are interested. I will do some research and present at next meeting. Russell is waiting on another sample to approve and then will be able to approve production.

Survey results:

67% start Scouts 9/8

61% interested in virtual

89% interested in in person Den meetings

50/50 on breaking Den down into smaller groups to meet in person

3 out of 18 responders said no to virtual only

67% said they would go to September campout

Most responders prefer phone/text communication (also mentioned you do not have to download the Remind app, it will just send the messages to your cellphone)

How do we want to start back? Individual Dens decide based on your Den’s preference

Drive by bridging? 30 minute window to drive up and get your kerchief and slide – shaded parking lot at church, 7-7:30pm, August 20th – notify parents of Virtual Recruitment Rally, September Trash Bash and Campout. Find out how they want to be notified of ZOOM rally information. Encourage them to invite friends to join us.

Virtual Recruitment Rally September 17, 6:30pm ZOOM – breakout rooms for Dens. Amity is putting together a flyer and Christina can see about getting it sent electronically to West Point and to Benbrook Elementary through Lacy Howard. Each Den come up with your formatting/mtg frequency/times/Zoom and/or in person? Church is not open for meetings at this time. Suggestions were in person meetings could be done at a park or in the parking lot. Virtual meetings need to be kept short. More of a check in to give announcements and keep families on the same page when it comes to working on adventures. Parents have too much with home schooling and kids have too much on computer with home schooling to try and do much productive virtually.

September Campout 25-27 – use to recruit – still on, follow CDC guidelines, space out at campfire program, sit with families instead of buddies, hand washing stations, hand sanitizer, parents handle the food prep, etc. We will need to plan and delegate responsibilities at next meeting. Figure out what we can do for our campfire, other activities and food plans

Website development – Send Derek pics to add to website that you are ok with being posted on the website. Please review and give Derek feedback on improvements.

Fundraising update? Put out the information for scouts to do their own popcorn online pages later in the fall after the coupon book fundraiser as there is no deadline for online popcorn sales. Emphasis on Coupon books. $20/book with $10 to Scout and $2 to Pack. Sell 10 books and pay for your dues.
